Company
Profile
Tradewinds Energy Ltd is a private Irish company
engaged in the business of harnessing wind for conversion
to green energy. The company is, therefore, also involved
in the sourcing of suitable sites. It engages in the planning
and development of these sites and the overall management
of projects from initiation to turnkey. The company now
enjoys a pioneer type profile because of its success in
the difficult planning process in Ireland. Tradewinds Energy
engages in appeals to unfavourable decisions and outsources
the appropriate expertise in engineering and environmental
sciences where necessary. The company has competence in
project management and innovation and has now positioned
itself in the market place as a bulk supplier of green power
to industry.
Achievements
The main activity of the company over the past
five years has been engaged in obtaining planning consents
and permitting. Tradewinds Energy now has licences to generate
as well as licences to build and operate plants. The company
has received planning permissions to erect clusters of wind
turbines to make Athea one of Ireland’s largest green
energy developments. Further success was achieved in attaining
AER 5 and 6 contracts to supply power under a PPA (underwritten
by the Irish Government). These buildouts are due for completion
in 2006.
The company also has obtained a foreshore licence (like
planning permission for the seabed) for an offshore wind
farm (300mw approx) in the mouth of the Shannon Estuary.
It has also applied for licences off Power Head, Ballycotton
(100mw approx) and the Glassgorman Banks (circa100mw) in
the Irish Sea. These sites are located so as to avail of
low water depth levels, proximity with ease of connection
to National Grid and proposed EU interconnectors.
